If you implement AT Protocol on your platform, it should be possible. This is what Pixelfed's creator was looking into.
And the bridge is subpar for one reason and one reason only, the motherfuckers on Mastodon who bullied the inventor of the bridge into making it subpar (they're included in my initial post)
