I do not think, that the fact we did not accomplish it yet means we will never be capable. Technology, wealth and personal growth might change things a lot and maybe there might be possibility of voluntary society in future.

When there was slavery, people also we're not able to imagine how could society function without slaves (there were also arguments full of fear, like "yes it is bad, yes it is violence, but it is the only option, without slaves society would collapse, who would work on fields, also the slaves are not capable to accept this much of freedom, they will die from hunger on streets, because they cannot function on free basis, they are used to be slaves"), but there were few people who said "I do not care. It is a violence. Period. First we stop it and than we will see if we can handle it, but no matter how it ends, nothing is a good argument for violence". And voila... Here we are. No slaves and we still live, we still have food on our tables and the slaves are now absolutely free people who can function in society on free basis as everyone else. Sometimes you just need time, change of paradigm and few visionary people without fear.
