Railway termini really need to get on the airport travelator clue train. Except that would necessitate *much* wider platforms and stations are usually very space-constrained because they were mostly built in city centres back in the mid-19th century. You could use the tunnels under the tracks/platforms, but that'd involve a lot of expensive construction work.
(But if HS2 ever gets rebooted, it'd be an obvious design gimme for the new stations.)
