I’m not sure what you mean. By anti-mining crowd, do you mean non-Bitcoiners who oppose mining on the grounds that it “wastes” energy?
If so, I think see the analogy. In both cases, someone is using a resource for something they value, and other people who don’t share that value assessment disagree vigorously.
