It's a good question, I could say about 20 things. Which actually suggests that there's no "best" tip for beginners. But here goes anyway 😂

Beyond your suggestions, which are great, here's a couple of thoughts:
- first, just have fun. If you're getting frustrated (it happens) give something else a go.
- seems obvious, but actually have a look at the climb before you get on the wall, and think about how you might approach it. See if you can spot 'the crux' (the part of the climb that looks trickiest)
- watch other climbers to see how they're doing the climb.
- but don't assume you have to do it the same way as other climbers. This is a lesson I have to repeatedly relearn: often the best way for me to do a climb is different to another climber due to our strengths and body shape etc.
- footwork is really important when you move to harder climbs, so start early by 'placing' your feet deliberately instead of just slapping them on the footholds.
- have a go at climbs that are beyond your current level. You can learn from just doing parts of climbs, and this breaks you out of a self limiting mindset that you're "just a 'level X' climber".
