Why is open standards and open source important?
My Synology just died after a power outage. Thankfully, it's software RAID was built on standard Linux tools.
I threw the drives into an old PC case I had lying around and booted off an Ubuntu USB stick. It detected the LVM and let me mount it to make sure my data was all good.
No messing around with special software or having to buy any hardware to get my data.
Now to spend some time making a TrueNAS Scale box.
