I *do* think there has been a trend recently of "Design" (for lack of a non-polarizing word) being both less understood and poorly represented.
Part of my frustration is that any designer with >10 years experience is NOT confused. It appears to be the younger designers (and to be fair younger companies as well! That are leading this confusion.
