It doesn't matter what they think or know. They have to spend money to buy votes or else they're out the door. They need money to spend, so they can tax it or print it. If they tax it, they're out the door, so they print it (and then they're out the door a little later).
They're in a no-win situation, what makes them "stupid" is that they haven't jumped ship and gone over to the Trump side.
