2 Filipino seafarers killed in Houthi attack
==========
Two Filipino seafarers were killed in a missile attack by Houthi rebels on the Liberian-owned, Barbados-flagged ship True Confidence in the Red Sea. The attack occurred about 50 nautical miles off the coast of Yemen's port of Aden. Two other Filipino crewmen were severely injured in the attack. The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) expressed condolences to the families of the slain seafarers and is providing support and assistance. The DMW is in touch with the ship's manning agency and shipowner to determine the condition of the remaining crew members and coordinate their repatriation. The DMW also called on shipowners to comply with the "high risk areas" designation and implement risk mitigation measures in the Red Sea-Gulf of Aden sea lanes. The Houthi rebels have been targeting merchant vessels in the Red Sea for months, but this attack resulted in the first fatalities. The United States and Britain have launched strikes on Houthi targets in response to the ship attacks. The Houthis have vowed to strike Israeli, British, and American ships, disrupting traffic through the Red Sea. The attack on the True Confidence is considered an act of terrorism, and lawmakers are calling for justice and the passage of the Magna Carta for Filipino Seafarers to protect their well-being.
