This is precisely the type of conversation we need to be having more of! \n\nIn other words, what are we trying to achieve here? And what types of knowledge do we suspect we need to help us achieve it? Taking your example, let's say we learn that cell type R in brain area S is connected to cell type X in brain area Y, and that if you twiddle with R or X, you disrupt behavior Z (and we do so for a lot of sets of {R,S,X,Y,Z}. Is that what we are really after when we say that we want to \"understand the brain\"? What would we do with that knowledge? What type of thing are we assuming that the brain is \"like\" for that type of knowledge to be interesting/important/relevant?",
