I realised overnight that it was probably a fool's errand.
One of the reasons I use calibre on my computer is to ensure that I can read (DRM'd) purchased eBooks on my Kobo.
As far as I can tell, calibre-web does not have a facility or plug-in for doing that.
So I'd still end up with calibre on my computer, and then rsyncing the library to calibre-web, just to get the books onto my eReader.
And, at that point, I might as well just use a cable from my laptop.
