The American in Chess was based on Bobby Fischer, the greatest chess player to have ever lived, impugned by the US Government for expression of his opinions (passport canceled, imprisoned for months in Japan until Iceland extended him citizenship in 2004). On the plane ride to Iceland, he said that he believed the US government or Mossad would kill him after things had settled down. He died of kidney failure in 2008.
Too bad the best songs were from the Russian.
