When iOS 7 debuted in 2013, macOS developers were mostly using Objective-C and AppKit, and iOS developers were mostly using Objective-C and UIKit. A big redesign meant reworking AppKit and UIKit to use the new visual and interaction styles, but it (mostly) only had to work with Objective-C.
