ok i get the point about irc being "open" but uh it's kinda a bit of work to have a proper irc server hosted that doesn't become a command & control server for botnets... (you should be monitoring the irc server, you should have some sort of irc services) not to mention that the reason discord is popular is because a lot of people just don't want to set up self hosted services like teamspeak, irc, mumble. don't get me wrong irc is nice but it's not a drop in replacement for discord or other centralized corporate chat platforms unless you know a bit about what you're doing
