Running Primal 0.28.2 (1) on iOS. A quick review.
The Good: The design is gorgeous. Everything is smooth and loads fast. Animations look great. The visual settings for size and post appearance are appreciated and extremely easy to use. Also a huge fan of feeds – this is how social media should be and I can't wait until this concept is expanded to custom algorithms that are cross-client compatible. Alby and Mutiny wallet integration both seem smooth. It has not crashed in any way in the limited time I've been playing with it.
The Bad: Still missing relay controls, but I have a feeling that's on the 'coming soon' pile. Also annoying, but not deal-breaking, is an inability to see who has liked/zapped a post, lists of follows/followers on profiles, the app cutting off music playing in other apps, and a few other small cosmetic things like pfps not linking and NIP-05 appearance.
The Ugly: The only thing ugly about Primal right now is the controversy around it. Algorithms are coming to nostr, whether you like it or not. Shadowbanning wasn't happening, but it might soon. Primal's development of custom feeds, well before any other client, is the exact right approach.
I am impressed and excited to see what continues to come from
miljan (npub16c0…6nvr) and the
primal (npub12vk…pugg) team. Primal took over as my primary desktop client a while ago and this release shows they want more people to say that on iOS as well.
