🚨Headline nostr News🚨
—----------------------------
If you missed the #clientwars today (check the hashtag, some great memes) - here are a few threads to catch you up. NIP-94 is a NIP (Nostr Implementation Possibility) that deals with filesharing standards. Controversy arose when implemented NIP-94 in an unexpected way that caused images from the Amethyst client to not render on other clients.
Will notes Amethyst images not rendering in Damus -
Seeing so many blank posts now from amethyst users. I wonder if they know that no one can see their photos anymore (except other amethyst users). This is a huge L for nostr.
FiatJaf notes that NIP-94 was not meant to be implemented in this way -

What a piece of hell is this?

NIP-94 was never intended to be used for inline images in social clients, right? It was meant for those other apps that would create markes for files and other crazy filesharing applications.

Please don't do this. Please don't break backwards-compatibility in these crazy ways.
,
I tend to agree it's not cool for the biggest client to just invent new standards without asking, but if he manages to make something that works and is backwards-compatible that could be good.

But I think the biggest issue here is that you've implemented NIP-94 on Amethyst in a way no one (I think) expected it to be implemented: for inline images -- which is probably a fault of the NIP and the discussions not ever being clear about their intents and purposes. We should address that by rewording the NIP.
Vitor reminds us that NIP-94 is an established protocol -
I love and all his work to lead Nostr into the huge ecosystem we have today.

However, he is wrong about NIP-94.

NIP-94 was discussed for 2 months, agreed and merged. Amethyst is just implementing the consensus. I am not the one going sideways to implement my own way of doing things.
,
I believe NIP-94 content in Kind1 is vital to the scalability of Nostr and must become a required feature for static content URLs in the future (Image/content server hacking is a real threat to the protocol when we scale up)

So, to help achieve that vision, I will turn NIP-94 content optional for now (two buttons: regular URL or hashed/accessible URL; user's choice) if agrees to implement a simple NIP-94 viewer, as the spec is today, in Damus (no need to create NIP-94 events).

What do you say, ?
Jack weighs in -
Can’t we hash this one out? Everything has been so collaborative thus far.
Will throws out the idea of Damus Android -
Starting to think damus needs an android app
- and then hints that something big will drop tomorrow
Something is happening tomorrow 👀

Today I made some changes in Zapit. Completely redesigned the dashboard frontend.

Lot of people are using this service so I will keep developing and managing it.

I also have some other ideas 🤔

Bug bounty! Let's try this:

21k sats in ecash for the person who can reliably reproduce the "Could not verify proofs" error in the cashu.me wallet.

My gut feeling is that it happens when the user has multiple mints and switches back and forth between. It seems to happen especially during a mint-to-mint swap. The safest way to test this is to create two mints on LNbits (legend.lnbits.com) by yourself so you can't lose funds when you get the bug. You can delete the browser local storage to reset your wallet (funds will then disappear!). Happy testing!

Info: I do not recommend using the inter-mint swap in cashu.me until we know what the source of this bug is. Use your own mints for testing!

Help us fix ze bugs!

answers the question, “What’s the use case for e-cash?” 🥜
Let's see

- Privacy (sender and receiver)
- Speed (basically instant)
- Use it offline (in intranets)
- Bearer instrument (you can put the token inside things, think of an onion data package)
- Reliable (you can stream zero tokens of which none will fail)
- Programmable (you can have spending conditions, like with Bitcoin)
- Liabilities auditable (soonTM)

It's not a replacement for noncustodial Lightning at all. It's just a different way (better in almost every way) of using Bitcoin custodially.

Congrats to the team at Munstr for taking first place 🥇 at the MITBitcoinClub hackathon. Looks like a great step to preserving privacy for Bitcoin users! 🕵️‍♂️
Our team took first place at the MITBitcoinClub hackathon!! 🥇. Munstr (MuSig + Nostr) is a combination of Schnorr signature based MuSig (multisignature) keys in a terminal based wallet using decentralized Nostr networks as a communication layer to facilitate a secure and encrypted method of transporting and digitally signing bitcoin transactions in a way that chain analysis cannot identify the nature and setup of the transaction data. To anyone observing the blockchain, Munstr transactions look like single key Pay-to-Taproot (P2TR) spends. Shout outs to my amazing team mates of Armin and #[0]
