Most of the Donbass fighters were not professional soldiers, Ukrainian or foreign, that's why they got their asses kicked so much for ten years before the RFAF rolled up in force.
Ukrainian politicians post-1991 are some of the worst in the world, always with a hand out for foreign money, whether Russian or American.
And since the 2014 coup they've been killing their own people in a way that would invite a UN "no fly zone" if they were on another continent.
I split 70% of the responsibility for this long-running disaster between Ukrainian politicians of both camps, and split the remaining 30% equally between Russia and NATO+.
