In many ways the challenge of scalability in the Fediverse is symbolic of the entire challenge of sustainability on the planet.
I don't believe the solution is very large companies dominating our lives. I think this always ends badly. But I also think there may not be any pathways back to a more local-focused and sustainable existence. So I'm feeling very negative about all of it right now.
