I'm happy that your subscribers just got some tidbit in their mail, and I might be interested in joining them if you gave me more than a "short story", or a "backgrounder", "chapter", etc. Like maybe a wee bit of context, maybe what genre you're working in, or what the story is about, or the subject matter, even why a character is relevant to the book you're working on.
Because "look these people got a *thing* you can too" simply is not that compelling.
