If there's a fire or a flood heading towards a town, it motivates the townspeople to work together to protect their town. But once the disaster actually hits the town, people tend to focus instead on protecting their own homes.
COP29 was a damp squib, with rich countries not wanting to do enough to protect the earth. Are we at the stage now where each country is just thinking about protecting themselves?
(Yes, I know that that doesn't make any sense.)
