Wandering around the mall with my wife and I need to go to the restroom. I come out of a stall just before a little boy comes out of another and we both head for the sinks.

He’s maybe five or six at most and is struggling to reach the soap that automatically dispenses. I said, “here you go sweetie.” and I let him scoop out some soap from my hand. In a soft, sweet little voice he said, “thank you.” and I honestly, i have never in my transition felt motherly until that moment.

He bounded off to his mom who was waiting at the door and i could hear him say, “mommy… that lady helped me.” and i thought my heart was going to explode.
