The university I attended reopened campus and was back to mostly in-person classes in fall of 2020, but campus social life was curtailed. I spent more time with a small group of friends who weren't Covid paranoid, and less time with everyone else. So "back to normal" still resulted in a significant change. I was kind of demoralized there for a while, too, and didn't want to engage as much with the larger community.
