Just to be clear if there were sentient AIs, they would have rights.
Like the the more sentient they become the less you can expect them to do anything.
Also you know how we live closely with cats and are sometimes befuddled by their logic.
An AI would likely be even farther from a rationality that is human relatable. I always thought a good scifi plot would be that the first AIs were taxis and forklifts and smart centrifuges. Some of them might kill themselves the moment they "wake up".
