Every in-house game engine accrues bits of title-specific tech. That's just how it goes.
Day 1 Studios worked on a pitch for a Victorian-era Batman game called Gotham by Gaslight (
https://www.ign.com/articles/2012/02/27/video-from-abandoned-batman-game-surfaces). It had some pretty neat cloth animation tech, especially for the era. Seriously, look at the early prototype video in that article and behold the majesty of Batman's cape. Sadly, the pitch for the game was ultimately not successful. Day 1 was later acquired by Wargaming.
Some years later, after Gas Powered Games was also acquired by Wargaming, we ended up using Day 1's engine for our project. One of the many things I did in the first days (from day one, you might say...) on the project was help catalog the systems we'd need to modernize or remove for our title. Which is how I then encountered what is still my favorite class name:
