The United States military and Iraq launched a joint raid targeting suspected Islamic State group militants in the country’s western desert, resulting in casualties on both sides. The raid aimed to disrupt the group's ability to plan attacks against civilians and U.S. interests. Despite ISIS losing territory in Iraq and Syria, it continues to operate in the Anbar Desert and claim attacks worldwide. U.S. forces in Iraq face threats from Iran-backed militias and remain a contentious presence in the region amid ongoing conflicts.
