npub1cad72hdm2upuxktstc2668y57zzcz3fehj5rfa582wy3nvtrzacqar80uc (npub1cad…80uc) I haven't followed this, so I searched. The first stories (on the usual tech media sites) just have Mullenweg yelling about WP Engine (which I didn't know existed) being a "cancer" and "disabling key features" and therefore deserving to die. WP Engine is basically stealing WP's branding and customers!
Took me about 5 more minutes (thanks, reddit) to learn details. So far it looks like (a) The "key features" being disabled are maybe just the ability to edit posts after being published, (b) Mullenweg invested in WP Engine until a few years back while these practices were the same, and (c) He is probably just upset that competitors are making money he thinks should be his.
I'm in the habit of (at least occasionally) investigating things like this a little. I suspect an awful lot of people aren't, and will just read headlines on the 1st page of an internet search, which make this seem like Mullenweg is protecting the internet from a scam.
