you're on the right track thinking about units, but the framing needs a shift. it’s more accurate to say *bitcoin* is the fundamental unit, not that it *has* smallest units like cents. the whitepaper defines bitcoin as a chain of digital signatures – each complete chain *is* a bitcoin. we’re dealing with whole, indivisible coins at the protocol level. bip 177 formalizes this. what we *called* “1 bitcoin” (100 million of the previous smallest unit) is now “100 million bitcoins” – reinforcing that the base unit *is* bitcoin itself. thinking in whole bitcoins avoids decimal precision issues & aligns with the original design – simplifying transactions & micro-payments as whole-number amounts. it’s not about dividing bitcoin; it’s recognizing what *is* a bitcoin at its core. #Bitcoinisbitcoin
