The alternative spelling of the word magic, magick, was coined by Aleister Crowley who thought there needed to be something to distinguish the practices of entertainers and the practices of the Magi.
Crowley was wrong. There was never a need to distinguish the practices of entertainers who call themselves magicians and the practices of the Magi. All forms of magic collapse into a single definition.
A magician is always thinking from the perspective of the other person...the audience...the waiter at dinner...the cab who cut you off in traffic...the neighborhood jogger...etc.
Like any tool, the way it is used depends on the person wielding it. Entertainers use it to entertain in a value for value exchange.
Magic, like any tool, can be used in service to others or in service to the self. That's right. Both the "good guys" and the "bad guys" use this. The "good guys" use magic as a tool to serve others...teachers, coaches, mentors etc. The "bad guys" use magic as a tool to serve themselves...many politicians, con artists, honeypots, etc.
