Simple geography means that connecting a renewables-based Scotland to the rest of Europe would be horrendously expensive (it'd take hundreds of kilometres of undersea HVDC cables with gigawatt capacity) and strategically very vulnerable (think Russian submarines with cable cutters doing a Nordstream 2 on it).
