This things happen from time 2 time that's why it's important to stay flexible and it's nowhere easier than on Linux.
You should install a second Desktop Environment that works independent of Gnome tech, so you can fall back to it.
My fallback DE is XFCE4. If you are very nerdy and prefer keyboard over mouse a tiling WE like i3 or Herbstluft may help.
So while hopefully that bug gets fixed you can continue to work in your fallback DE without downgrading or holding back packages!
