I used to walk on Park Island every morning, and I went there again today. It's a small nature reserve within walking distance of where I live.

It's a beautiful place.

I've not been there for a while, and this morning I encountered a woman I sometimes see there. She's in her eighties, and a serious, straight forward, no-nonsense sort of person. I think she used to be a farmer and she's got that practicality about her.

She was so pleased to see me! She told me she'd been "really worried" about my absence from the island. She even gave me a hug!
