Trade offs:
You get privacy and smaller deniminations. #Ecash is a bearer token so the data is the thing which makes it more generally useable with other software (see http 402).
It is not Bitcoin, it's a shitcoin IOU for bitcoin. You do not hold the keys unless you run the mint (or the mint's LN node). However, Cashu supports paying LN invoice so you can receive ecash and 'melt' into LN right to your own node.
Probably some more to consider.
