I am trying to use Threads again, and I think one reason it doesn't work is that the algorithm seems to prioritize really idiotic content. The algorithm is probably meant to work well for something like Instagram, where Instagram videos can be mindless floof but still enjoyed, like it's hard to argue with videos of pets, food, travel, jokes, and the like. Instagram could devoid of any meaningful or intellectual content and still be usable, and I guess people still put some kind of minimal effort into making videos, but Threads seems to map this concept onto text posts that are just brain-dead on a level that's hard to fathom. I've been browsing Threads for days now, and the platform is full of absolute garbage and encourages the production of more.
