I suspect we're 3-5 years (at most) from a face-to-face final interview being mandatory for any remote tech jobs with security implications—if necessary, have a couple of current vetted employees fly out to shake hands with the new employee as part of on-boarding—just to witness that they're a human being and not a sock puppet created by a state-level actor.
