Galaxy itself is vinmeen mandalam (agglomeration of skyfish)
We have a great name for the Milky Way from Sanskrit, which was what the "astronomers" of ancient India (with their different mother tongues) probably called it... it's AakashGanga (Space/Sky Ganga).
