I was a dumb kid--so correct me if I'm wrong--but everything seemed to grow like it was on steroids. Heck, trees would blow over & start growing from the crushed branches touching the ground. I planted a rhododendron in the top of an old redwood stump at a rock garden I worked at & 40yrs later it had grown into a giant! It seemed you could plant a 2x4 & it would grow. The mosses & lichens take a long time to regrow, interesting.
