Man look I used to run a Mastodon instance, I know exactly how it works. All you gotta do is say "this guy is literally Hitler for saying a thing I disagree with!" and the mob will agree. This attitude from admins naturally creates an echo chamber because yes those who disagree will leave. You then get a climate of censorship and users walking on eggshells.
Yes, you can escape it by hosting your own instance, but an average user is not going to do that. Even with your own instance, with most of the fediverse being like this, what's the point?
This is a cultural issue yes, but also a technical one - the structure of Nostr prevents power mad admins behaving like this by eliminating admins from the equation altogether.
