npub1upkp7fd7rc3lrjg23r8gy0wc723vze7mxlx5984ut6zurjzpf5xss4tcwy (npub1upk…tcwy) makes the excellent point that git uses all-caps "HEAD" to mean the revision you currently have checked out, and lower-case "head" to mean the last commit on a branch.
It's suddenly so obvious how much confusion I've had that stemmed from these two entirely different uses of the same word.
