Mathew Olshan's "Marshlands"
Short novel, but even so I read it in two sittings, it flowed that well.
I didn't really know what it was about and so the first section was made that much more mysterious and magical, trying to understand things in the same way the main character was.
The book gets heavier later on as it becomes more clear what the subject matter is.
My only spoiler will be, if scenes of violence bother you, you may want to pass on this one.
