I was fortunate during my 32-year career as an administrator at a large public university to serve under just two university presidents. That kind of longevity in university leaders was rare, and it reflected positively on their leadership skills. It also made my job easier. My role was leading a unit that conducted statistical studies of internal and external issues to help the president and vice presidents make management decisions: Were tuition and fee rates comparable to those of similar universities? Were faculty salaries nationally competitive and internally equitable? Did the introductory curricula prepare students for higher-level courses? Were the curricula well-balanced in terms of distance education opportunities? (1/5)
