Yeah, it's great to want to help birds, but if a bird is on the ground it's in distress and letting it go in the air could cause injury.

Contacting a local wildlife rehab is the best thing to do, they can help you help the bird. I've been doing bird and wildlife rescue for almost a decade, I'm not worried about bird flu (I wash my hands and don't kiss the birds 🙂) but i am worried about people hurting already injured animals.
