If you want to learn about photography you must learn to use a camera in manual features. Then you can do anything with a phone. Phone I go for the manual features because I want the picture to be taken like "I want" and not how the "phone will take it".
I use the phone as a second camera, or when I don't want to be all the time with more than 1kg at my back...it becomes heavy. But no phone can beat a camera. Sorry but the contrast and everything else, not the same.
