Vietnam to build US$67 billion high-speed railway

Vietnam announced plans to construct a US$67 billion high-speed railway from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, covering over 1,500 kilometers (930 miles) and reducing travel time from 30 hours to approximately five. The National Assembly approved investment policies for the project, which is expected to boost GDP by 0.97% annually. The railway will include 23 stations across 20 cities and provinces, enhancing regional connectivity. The project is set to begin in 2027 and aims for completion in 2035, despite Vietnam's history of infrastructure delays. Dan Martin from Dezan Shira & Associates stated the railway will significantly enhance Vietnam's role in global supply chains.
