that's rotten luck on the Janome. Do they sell Juki's where you are? they are industrial machines, but they make smaller ones and I think there is a solid repair/resale market for them. Getting a reconditioned machine from a repair shop is always a good move, they can fix it. I always stuck with Husqvarna Viking once I arrived at that grade of machine, but we had Juki's at college and I was very interested in the idea of a small semi at one time.
