I think they've also learned to be suspicious of just about all news, and so they often see possible news sources as equally questionable?
Which I'm guessing comes from a combination of influences: being taught to engage media critically - a lot of secondary ed has some basic info lit curriculum integrated at some point - but also, rural Midwestern parents who rail against mainstream media, for instance.
They were *very* interested in where I got my news and how I integrated it into my day.
