My husband fashioned my ring himself, and probably didn't spend much on it. Our wedding was almost a Vegas drive-thru. It didn't cost much. But that same week he bought me a duplex to live in and rent out so I will always have a home and an income. Boy is that better than a fancy wedding and a shiny ring!
