actually let me correct myself. it can raise sea levels if the ice is from fresh water, which is less dense than seawater because the salt in sea water increases its density. in this case the melted iceberg won't fit into the volume of dense sea water it was displacing and sea level will rise because overall mass of the ocean will remain the same but salinity and thus density of water will decrease, increasing volume of water.
Low Information Voter (npub1494…zmp0) this should have been obvious to me but any ice that is floating in the ocean will not raise sea levels if it melts because it is already displacing exactly its weight of water and that won't change
only ice that is sitting on dry land above sea level has potential of raising ocean levels if it melts
