I haven't had my bootloader break for software reasons without my manually trying to modify things (such as to change the hardware configuration without reinstalling) in over a decade.
I've had more recent hardware failures and degrading disks leading to boot failure though. And that was in fact what led me to investigating btrfs for /boot. nostr.fmt.wiz.biz
