One of the things I've always known about milkweed is that farmers consider it a pest plant. Spreads everywhere, extremely hardy. Hard to control.

It's native and butterflies like it though so I have a corner of my backyard garden put aside for it. It's self-sustaining, every year a new crop pops up from the dropped seeds of the previous year.

But what the heck is going on this year? Black rot on the stems, and half of them don't even look like milkweed.

Any ideas?
