I post this here because it's a unique way to implement a time lock.
Perhaps we can find this method useful for different implementations of
HTLC's or time-sensitive rewards / penalties. To make things even more
interesting, the authors are working on integrating adjustable difficulty
and distribution for rewards:

It's tantamount to creating micro POW mining environments. Pretty cool
stuff and possibly a uniquely useful tool for payment channels.
